Our Mission Statement
“To introduce the dance arts to young people of northwest Ohio and provide a safe haven for learning not only dance but principles and disciplines to aid them in their future path through life.”
Defiance Dance Studio was born in September 1969; the brain child of Vevah B. Ream. Her wish was to keep dance in the Defiance area, not only for her daughter, but to offer classes to everyone – not just those that could afford to participate. What began as a small endeavor quickly grew. A scholarship, in her memory, is awarded each year to the student who exemplifies her spirit and determination.
Dancers from the Defiance Dance Studio are often seen out and about performing for the community and surrounding area. The dancers have participated in the Miss Northwestern Ohio Scholarship Program as the “the Miss Northwestern Ohio Dancers”. They have also been seen performing at the Northtowne Mall in a flash mob for Elder Beerman, as well as serving as models for Elder Beerman and K-Mart. They can also be spotted performing for a county fair, benefits or a local retirement facility. Groups from Defiance Dance Studio have been selected to perform for the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program as featured performers on four separate occasions.
Dancers from DDS have moved on in life to teach and / or perform. We proudly have alumni in New York City, one recently named to the cheerleading squad of the Indianapolis Colts, as well as performing in semi-professional theatre around the area. Dancers have also worked at Walt Disney World delightfully playing characters and participating or organizing holiday parades. A few dancers have made the change to ballroom dance and have been doing well in competitions around country.
